Apples & pears
Neither jelly, nor jam, nor marmalade...
Le Vrai Sirop de Liège® is a unique high-fruit recipe developed in 1947. Crafted at the syruperie Meurens in Aubel, it brings together three slowly cooked fruits: apples and pears. Neither a jelly, jam nor marmalade — a patient concentration that reveals the natural sugar of the fruit and gives syrup its inimitable taste.
Four kilograms of fruit are needed to obtain a single kilogram of syrup. This extreme concentration, inherited from the Liège tradition, explains the thick texture and depth of taste that have characterised the recipe for almost a century. No flavourings, no preservatives: everything comes from the fruit and the cooking time.
4 kilos of fruit for 1 kilo of syrup!
Four kilos of fruit — apples and pears — go into the making of every kilo of Vrai Sirop de Liège®. Cooking takes several hours over a low heat in the cauldrons of the Aubel syrup plant.
From this patient reduction is born a brown, dense, slightly translucent paste, the flavour of which is as deep as the process is ancient. No added sugar, no flavouring: everything comes from the fruit and time.
